So happy I clicked through your comment to your web page. My godfather, who was an artist and a boxer (golden gloves champ!) and an animal lover, died from ALS so this writing speaks to my very soul. He was the first person who taught me how to hold a paint brush and would buy me paint by numbers and we'd sit together and paint away ignoring the numbers. Thanks for posting this poem.
