As an aside, thank you to Earl for fixing my computer! Nice to be back online again
For the past couple weeks I’ve only had my phone. Which has been a lifesaver, however sometimes you miss an actual keyboard.
Courtney’s computer is in the shop so she asked me to post this corgi commercial.
Happy joy to be out frolicking in the sunshine! ![]()

Post farmer’s market, we enjoyed a leisurely stroll through our favorite park, Alamo Square. I’m soooo excited that Linus is getting “all better” and walking again- he can go and enjoy the park with us! It’s such a small thing, but was really, REALLY, REALLY exciting to see him roll around on the grass again! He was kicking his feet up in the air in joy, and just wiggling around in corgi glee. Four months ago when became paralyzed, I couldn’t believe he’d get a chance to enjoy this again!

Funny how the small things come to mean so much to ya!
On a personal note, I joined a swim team here in SF! This morning was my “try out” or first day. I’m now officially on the team! It was rough getting back into the pool- I haven’t swam much since when I did triathlons and lived in NYC. I think somewhere around 2000 meters, I was inhaling more water than I was swimming through. HOWEVER I survived and it felt really, really, really great afterwards. Particularly in the relaxation part after swimming in the cedar sauna
Anyways, excited for practices. Shooting for making swim practice 5 or so days a week. Hopefully this will be a nice complement with powerlifting. Are there many powerlifters/swimmers? Heh… maybe it will make me a good sprinter. 50 fly here I come!
Can ya spot him?

HERE HE IS!

Waiting outside the really good deli while I pick up turkey sandwiches after powertraining and then taking Linus to acupuncture on this rainy Friday. I’m off to school for the afternoon- preparing for a presentation I am giving tomorrow at the Women in Sciences Fair.
Happy Friday
Have you heard California has a new first dog? He’s a corgi named Sutter Brown.

Here he is with the first lady walking around the capitol:
Go Sutter! He’s seven, the same age as Linus, and nearly as cute ![]()

and a side view of our First Dog, hard at work:
To quote our friend (and corgi enthusiast) Debbie, “glad to see he’s taking his role in government seriously.” hee hee
You can follow Sutter on twitter here, and watch a great video about how he’s helping the balance the budget here.
I hereby attest that pollo con chicharos at Poc Chuc in the Mission is one of the absolutely best meals I’ve ever eaten.
Possibly one of the top meals ever, certainly one of the best in San Francisco.
It’s marinated chicken thigh with peas, served in this scrumptious orange-based sauce, with spanish rice and tortillas. I didn’t think to take any photos while eating, but here’s one of my lunch bill: Cheap!

Earl and I took Steve and his wife Alex there last time they were visiting SF, although I can’t remember if I ordered pollo con chicharos. It’s funny- chicken and peas sounds like such a bland dish, something I would *never* order… and the only reason I ordered it one time is Earl and I were there and they were out of my desired dish, so I just selected that as a last minute thing.
It’s absolutely delicious- if you’re ever in San Francisco I urge you to go try it out!!! I don’t see it on their menu; I think it’s one of their permanent specials.
Even saved a bite of tortilla for Linus, who was waiting in the car. ![]()

Look at our broken dog who patiently waits at the bottom of the stairs while I take up groceries so then I can come back down and pick him up!
I think he’s learning that he’s “not allowed” to go up and down stairs, and now waits at the bottom or the top of them expecting to be carried. He’s about 30lbs… couldn’t imagine having to go through this ordeal with a great dane!
Good thing Earl and I have both been powertraining with Ricky for the past couple months

waiting for his ride
Up the stairs, down the stairs, every time he goes outside for a walk or to come with us on errands… and we even had stairs INSIDE the apartment (there’s a bedroom and bathroom downstairs) so that is one more flight for which to be carrying corgis!

Spotted, on my n3rdlove’s desk tonight:

Apparently the dogs on the cover belong to the author. They all have silly math names, too. (I think the corgi’s name is Regression or something along those lines…).
I searched for more corgi pics inside, but all I found were boring graphs.

Alright, bedtime. I’m completely zonked we ran 9 calls in a 10 hour shift today. All really nice patients, but man going back to back all day wears ya out! G’night.
means every writable surface in our house gets covered in formulas.
like our PG&E bill:

which, by the way, we just reduced about $70 a month by having PG&E come out and do an “electricity audit” on our house- turns out we were powering the nextdoor (kinda attached) storage unit, which really isn’t part of our rent. So wahoo to that!
Linus doing better still. He’s walking with NO rear leg harness just this week, although still with a somewhat wobbly fashion. It’s nice not having him in that rear harness- not only does it free up a hand for the walker (or, not require two people anymore!) but I think he’s happier, too. I think he’s starting to feel like a “real dog” again. He’s definitely feeling “healed” as he tried to LEAP out of the back of the car two days ago when I took him to physical therapy. There was no leaping for the past four months! Dangerous, but a sign he’s feeling better. Have to keep a particularly sharp eye on him to make sure he doesn’t attempt anymore leaps of greatness. Silly dog
