This morning I had my first day of teacher training at SFPA. Earl met me downtown afterward to take me out to lunch at the Thirsty Bear to celebrate. Here is our dessert:
Holy cow, this was incredible! It’s a chocolate mousse cheesecake. Mmmm, mmmm.
All is right with the world; the cat has found a proper spot in which to sunbathe!
How adorable is she?
We are slowly getting unpacked… STILL! Is it supposed to take this long?! I guess we are just lazy…. er, erm… busy. To be fair, I’ve started working in full capacity as new promotion at work (in addition to still being a regular, full time EMT-B 36-hours a week!) and getting my feet under me with all those projects has taken up the bulk of my free time. I also have my first day of instructing coming up next weekend at the SFPA which is very, very, VERY exciting! From a career perspective, I feel like things are sort of “blowing up” in a good way. It’s a really nice feeling to have my talents recognized and called out of the blue to work on special projects. Humbling and exciting. Although I kind of worry if everything is heading in the right direction- am I staying on target, going towards the direction where I ultimately want to be? Hopefully!
Projects for this weekend include moving furniture around to see where we like everything. We’ve got a couch, a bunch of rugs (thanks, Mom!) and bookshelves- now where to arrange them all? I’m sure Earl is going to love moving them around to various positions while we decide if that’s where they look best I’m also “DEEP CLEANING” the new place tomorrow since hanging up curtains and shelves created a lot of fine dust. You know who also is getting a DEEP CLEANING? The dog! He’s getting a bath and a brushing tomorrow.
So anyways- not too many dramatic updates here. Life swinging along as normal but busy at work and trying to get settled into the new place. We are going away for a beach week to North Carolina in about three weeks which I am very excited about! Linus will be staying with my Aunt and Uncle. This will be our first “real vacation” in…. two years? At least, the first one that’s more than a weekend. I can’t wait to park my butt in the sand while simultaneously consuming a frozen beverage. Oh, and my entire family (parents, sisters, nieces, nephews, etc) will be there at the same time, so that’s sorta exciting as well. But… you know… way more excited about the beach and the frozen drink
Guess who hung up curtains? All by herself
That’s right… THIS GIRL.
While my man was in Wisconsin visiting his fam, a very productive weekend was had around these parts. I hung up two curtains and their holdbacks, two bike racks, two towel holders, a hanging plant, a bunch of pictures, paintings and decorations, cleaned the literbox, picked up two overtime shifts, brushed the dog, took the dog to the dog park, built a shelf and hung it up in the bathroom, had a friend over for watermelon margaritas and then saw The Kids are Alright with said friend. I also potted EIGHT plants on our patio!!
And then… if you want to hear even MORE gloating, I found out I got a promotion at work! Woof!
Boy, am I tired
I’ll post up some more photos of the pad once we get it a bit more together… a few more touches left to make er complete.
We are still alive, just haven’t really had internet access and also been very busy working on the apartment.
Can I whine a bit about how much work it is to set up a new “home?” PLEASE?! Man it is a lot of work. We have to hang curtains, towel holders, pictures and paintings, run cables all over the place. And none of that stuff is either Earl nor my forte. We’re getting it done, a little at a time… but in the meantime…. BLEGH. I think it would be nice to move somewhere and not move for like 5 years.
Here is Linus outside the coffee shop this morning:
Here’s Linus outside of the little coffee shop near us this morning. Whenever I tie him to a bench outside a store, he jumps up onto it while waiting. Better visibility, perhaps? When you’re a “shortstack” guess you have to use all available resources.
What a gorgeous day here in San Francisco! Sunny and lovely, not too hot. Perfect weather to unpack an apartment. Heh… at least we are having a BBQ in a few hours. Here is to a productive day!
Hee hee
And, it survived the whole ride from South San Jose to SF without blowing off and causing a crash on the highway. In fact, you will be very impressed to know that I drove exactly 60mph the whole way and used my special g-force reducing “patient with severe pain in the back of the ambulance” skillz while taking corners.
This marks the first time I’ve ever hauled anything on the roof of the Jeep! Threats have been made before to stow both the boyfriend and the dog up there at times, however those are generally hollow (though Earl just informed me that Mitt Romney actually made his dog ride on the roof! yikes … what an asshole).
Never before have I been so much my Father’s Daughter as the moment today where I corrected Earl on the proper knot-tying methods and procedures of Tying Things to the Roof.
We bought two bureaus! And looked at a bunch of beds and couches. A few of those we liked, but decided to sleep on it before plunking down.
Oh, also, we ate this today while on a between-furniture-shopping lunch at this drool-inducing place in Los Gatos:
Yes, it was every bit as good at it looks.
Tomorrow we are unpacking (ugggh) and then having friends over to BBQ on the patio in the afternoon. Grilled meat and beer: bring it on.
Happy 4th, Everyone!
