Well, we are officially into the new place but far from settled. The new pad has a lot less storage so I’ve been going through and organizing stuff and making a big pile to bring to Goodwill.
Been really enjoying checking out the new hood- Linus and I have been doing hour-long walks each morning exploring. It’s only a 9 minute walk to Dolores Park and also- get this- about an 8 minute walk to an outdoor swimming pool where a masters team practices! So I am thinking of joining them… we’ll see… still in the contemplation phase of that.
One reason for this update (while I down coffees at an internet cafe) is that we will have no internet at home until JULY 9th when it gets installed!!! So I’m not going to be able to get online much- but that means I will be really productive when it comes to unpacking and getting stuff installed, hung up and whatnot.
Now… get packing.
Don’t forget to pack my crate, my toys, my food, my bed, my brushing equipment, my treats, my toothbrush and peanut butter flavored toothpaste, my …..
Some exciting news: This week we signed a lease on a new apartment! It’s in the Mission and a stone’s throw from Dolores Park and the BART. Hurrah for easy commutes- Earl downtown to his office and for me to Paramedic School. And, and, and… (!!!!) ….. here is the best part:
IT HAS A PATIO!
whoooo
I’ve really, really, really missed the patio of our NYC apartment. Mostly just for chilling and drinking a coffee in the morning with the newspaper. That used to be such an integral part of my weekend routine. Even though our apartment right now is really gorgeous and really nice, having no outdoor space to pad over to in your pjs and laze around on while collecting sunbeams has been a true downer. I feel like a caged animal confined to the indoors. So even though it’s not as schmance, I’m extremely excited for this new place!
I am, however, not really looking forward to moving itself. It’s funny- Earl and I have helped about four of our friends move, but for some reason we just don’t feel like cashing in that favor right now. Maybe we’ll hire some dudes from craigslist to help us out. We are moving for July 1st (“officially”), however have a few weeks of overlap in the meantime to get started.
Today I went on craigslist and snagged a bunch of free boxes from Good Samaritans. People just give away their old boxes after a move, did you know that? Pretty awesome. We will most likely play it forward and do the same. Quite cool that we found that out- when we moved from NYC to San Francisco we shelled out about $400 at Home Depot for (on sale!) boxes, packing tape and packing paper. Just one afternoon of browsing on CL and I circumvented that expense entirely. The people I picked up free boxes from were couples who had just moved- one couple came from Boston out to SF and kind of reminded me of us two years ago. When we were all wided-eyed and fresh faced and “I’m *so* gonna love it here in San Francisco.”
Anyway, here are a coupla photos of the new pad:
kitchen:
bedroom:
living room:
Pretty basic looking, but it’s kinda unique- it’s actually two levels and it’s own free-standing “house” …. no other apartments touch it. The bedroom and garage are downstairs (and a bathroom) and the patio, kitchen, living room and another bathroom make up the 2nd level. And, while it’s not in the best or most desirable part of San Francisco, it is first and foremost an easy commute for both of us. Also, you could say it’s sort of an “up and coming” neighborhood with lots of shops and restaurants. So hopefully we will like it there. (*crosses fingers*) Here is to moving on up! Or… at least… here is to parking your butt outside on the patio whilst nursing a cuppa coffee
When your boyfriend drops your mail by your desk, you find you’ve received the new catalog for Shitstomping Boots.
Not that I need more Shitstomping Boots. The ones I bought a year ago are still going strong and actually AMAZING. I own a lot of footwear, and these things have impressed me to no end. They really feel like clouds on my feet! I am super impressed that after a year of heavy duty wear, getting pissed on, vomited on, worn through massive puddles and in the pouring rain, gurney wheeled over them, crap dropped on them, taken on and off and on and off and on and off, and work for 12, 24 and 36 hours straight that they are in such good shape. They’re not even all that scuffed! I shine them once in a while when we have a Flight Call and I’m in the bathroom at the private jet airport (there’s a little complimentary shoe shine machine in there! fancy!), but other than that, absolutely no maintenance.
And through all that, they are still uber freaking comfortable!!!! In fact, they might be the absolute most comfortable shoe I own- moreso than my running sneaks! Also, even with all the nasty sweaty schleping around I do in the heat, they don’t even smell that bad. Those things are seriously the bomb! I highly, highly recommend these babies if you’re in the market for Shitstomping Boots.
In other news, we are blowing off all our Important Things to Do for the day and heading to the beach HURRAH! We have a dog that needs to get buried up to his neck in sand and then dragged in the ocean, you see Have a great day!
I know my keyboard is crinkly and my laptop is located in the sunbeam, however NO SITTING ON MY COMPUTER, Confounded Feline!
Just look at that guilty expression on her face! She knows she is not supposed to be there!
*yawn* I just got home from a 24hr shift this morning, took a nap and woke up. Now off to walk the dog to the park, run some errands and then attend a lecture series tonight and the gym. Computer will be closed and relocated out of the sunbeam to make it less enticing to cat butts.
