Linus’ Scary Ride
Because I own the World’s Most Unreliable Car, we awesomely received a AAA Membership for my Christmas present from my parents.
Yesterday, we got the chance to use it because the car overheated in SOMA when I was picking E up on his lunchbreak to go run an errand. The coolant was overflowing and leaking everywhere.
The AAA towing people were… okay, however they REFUSED to let Linus go in the cab of the tow truck! So he was in for a scary ride, all by himself, in the Jeep on the back of a flatbed truck.

$650 (and five days of waiting in the shop for the new part to come in) later, we will have a new coolant fan and cooling fan module. I’d say “hopefully this is the last of it” for a while, however we already have some other repairs waiting in the wings- a new CV boot and the transmission pan leaking both also need to be fixed. Oh, the joys of car ownership!! I miss living in NYC and not owning a car.
Despite having a scary ride, Linus survived. He does enjoy going to the car mechanic because they give him dog biscuits. So he wasn’t *too* traumatized. I was the only one traumatized because they initially told me it was “probably a headgasket” which would basically mean the car was totaled. Fortunately, it ended up not being that… however we should still probably think about getting a new car at this point anyways. For all the cash we dump into this one we could just be making a car payment and at least have something reliable.

In the meantime, Linus is coming with me on BART to visit my Aunt and Uncle, who are very kindly lending me their spare car (a corvette! how funny!… and how nervewracking… I am going to be one cautious driver in that thing) to get to and fro work in the intermin while Jeep is being fixed.

You really need to sell that thing. I have a friend who had the same problem (something breaking constantly), sold it and got an XJ and is much happier. I kind of want one too now.
Linus is brave!
Aww poor Linus!
You MUST get me a picture of Linus in the Corvette. MUST!!!
LOL.

Awwww what a brave boy! Hey question – do you crate Linus when you take him on BART? Just curious how strict they are about dogs on the train….
Poor Linus!! I bet that was an adventure for sure. I bet he was so confused.
weird he couldn’t sit in the cab with you,
AAA is soooo good about towing; do watch though, they (at least here) only allow 4 tows per year per driver so hopefully the Jeep will cooperate and not leave you stranded to have to be towed more than that (otherwise — here — its $60 a tow) (we found out the hard way with son’s Cadillac on year)
hang in there, eventually you’ll replace everything on the Jeep and then it will be “good to go” for a bit
and I second the comment about a picture of Linus in the Corvette; you “owe” him that, LOL
betty
Ahh, that picture is too cute– those ears sticking up and looking out the window. Brave Linus! How lame of them to not let him in the cab, though!! That’s weird…
I’m sorry your jeep is having issues, though. I have an older model of a grand cherokee, too, and I’ve been having over heating problems, too! It’s lousy, and can be so many things. Good luck!!
Be careful in the Corvette.
Linus looks cute, as usual.
Good luck with your car issues.
Believe it or not (most will note), I got my 1991 Jeep Laredo to 254,000 miles before I gave up on it. Similar to you, it was one thing after another for a few months. Then, when the “next” fix would have cost me nearly $900, I decided that was the time to put her out to pasture.
Current 2002 Xterra has 150,000 miles on her now… knock on wood!
